The Move-Out Cleanout Walkthrough Most People Need

A room-by-room walkthrough catches the closets, outdoor areas, and awkward leftovers that cause last-minute delays.

Do the final walkthrough after packing is mostly complete, while there is still time to make decisions. Start at the farthest room and finish at the exit so cleared areas stay clear.

Check more than the main rooms

Open every closet, cabinet, attic access, and outdoor storage area. Look behind doors and appliances. Walk the porch, garage, and side yard. A few bulky leftovers can take more planning than several boxes.

Final walkthrough list

  • Mark every item that travels with you.
  • Photograph the removal group from two angles.
  • Note stairs, elevators, gates, and loading restrictions.
  • Keep cleaning supplies you still need separate.
  • Set keys, remotes, and property documents aside.

Plan the timing backward

Leave enough time between removal and the handoff for sweeping, repairs, and a second walkthrough. A cleanout request is easier to estimate when the crew knows the address, number of rooms, largest items, deadline, and closest loading point.
